Autograss (pt 2)

2008 was all change I purchased, the ex-nick constantine(YD49) Class 3 golf rolling shell, sold the trusty old 205. The CS Club moved onward to Tillyochie mains Nr Balado. This was a rather disapponting season for many a reason, for me. I only managed to get the Class 3 to 2 meeting. One was in the hope that someone could help me setup the bike carbs as there was fuel being jetted out the carbs, giving serious flooding issues, but to no avail. I managed one meetings Racing this was with an adaptor (made by Derek Binnie CS333) plate allowing me to run a twin choke weber carb . This worked to quite good effect.

I managed both my heats and the final, having slight issues with a slightly damn dizzy cap (there was a puddle in it). I can happily say that being a Front wheel drive type driver I only managed to spin it 3 times. One was on the way back into the pits after scrutineering, the next exiting turn 2 in practice. I manged to park the front wheel in one of the marker tyres so was un able to continue. Once in the final.

2009 was a return to Tillyochie and a the right offer from a friend saw me buy a class 1 AX for my wife Angie(CS64). CS only had 2 meetings a Tillyochie in 2009 due to issues with planning. I raced the golf Class 3 at the first meeting and the second, which was a 2 dayer, we raced the Class 1. I left the Class 1 to Angie for the Saturday as I wanted her to have some racing under her belt before I got my hands on it and possible broke it. She did very well for he first outing, gaining confidence over the day. She was still learning to drive at this point, ending her day with a bit of a spin after her getting sideways coming out of turn 2 and it kicking back, leaving the car pointing the wrong way and the battery had died. She was unable to continue.

Sunday saw us both take to the track. I took a win in my first heat after Kenneth McRae (CS50) was caught out by a slower car and I took full advantage. My second heat saw a superb battle for 3rd with a Solway driver SL39. Where I kept hitting the bump entering Turn one and ending up in the loose stuff on the outside, but very often getting a good run out the same corner to catch back up by the following corner. The race ended with an extremely close heat where I lost out in a drag race to the finish line, ending 4th. One of the best races I’ve had. I happily qualified for the final. The final saw me finishing 2nd to Blair Robertson(CS835), who managed a better line into the corners than me, leaving me trying my hardest to get round the outside of him.

Angie had lost most of the confidience she had built up on the Saturday but again made steady progress over the day even to the point of having a good battle with Amanda Nicol (CS95), in the ex-scott Graham(CS77) Class 2.

2010 saw a sale agreed for the class 3. The return of CSAC to the original site at Lochgelly but now the land is owned by lochgelly motorsport complex. Who will also have a stock car, kart and Motocross tracks on site. We will be sharing the class1 for the 2010 season, I have agreed a shot of a special, to allow me to gauge whether I would like race one, with a view to trying to sort out a F600 Special for the 2011 season.

February 2010 saw an unexpected bit of luck, having finalised the sale of the Class3 golf to Graeme Cuthbert. He made the final payment on collection of the car. Just before he collect the car I saw an Car on ebay I though suitable for the purpose and a V lucky bid saw me by a Honda powered Special. Needing some minor updating for the 2010 season. It took a while and finally 20th June saw me debut the f600 sporting its new floor, some side protection and a new fuel( possibly temporary) fuel tank..
